January kindness calendars

We are in the last week of January, which means that Kindness calendars will be due by Thursday, February 1st to be entered to win a prize during our assembly on Friday. Please turn your kindness calendars in directly to me between classes or leave in my mailbox in the office. I look forward to seeing how many students completed the calendars. We had 15 of 305 students participate in December, hopefully many more students will participate this month! As a result of Kindness Week coming up, February 12-16, we will not have a monthly calendar for February. Instead students will receive a checklist of suggestions as part of the Great Kindness Challenge. Please look for your teachers to be handing those out in your first period class on Monday, February 12th. During that week we will have lots of activities to recognize and encourage kindness in the middle school. Kindness Week!

It's here! It is finally Kindness Week! We announced Kindness Week on Friday in a CMS Student News segment that Emily Gregorich and several Secret Kindness Agents helped put together. You can view the news segment here . In addition, students were given a checklist of activities that they can do to be kind to others at school, in the community and at home. The class that completes the most random acts of kindness will receive a prize from me next week! After only one day, several students had reported that they had already completed many of the activities. Teachers were also given a list of activities that they could do to encourage kindness in their 1st hour classes. Mrs. Kunzie reported that while doing the web of kindness (giving a compliment while tossing a ball of string around) students were trying to figure out ways to make the string last longer. Kindness Blog

Since many students utilize Blogger in class, I thought that this would be a good format to inform students of what is going on with the Kindness Challenge and to encourage feedback from students about the challenge. Currently, we have approximately 5,000 acts of kindness that have been submitted since the start of the school year! While this is a great number, I would like to challenge students to perform even more random acts of kindness during the second semester! Together I think we could reach 12,000 total acts of kindness by the end of the 2017-18 school year. I will post a weekly blog to update students on progress towards the goal. Students may comment with how many acts of kindness they have seen over the previous week, which I will then add to our totals.
