Kindness Blog

Since many students utilize Blogger in class, I thought that this would be a good format to inform students of what is going on with the Kindness Challenge and to encourage feedback from students about the challenge.

Currently, we have approximately 5,000 acts of kindness that have been submitted since the start of the school year! While this is a great number, I would like to challenge students to perform even more random acts of kindness during the second semester! Together I think we could reach 12,000 total acts of kindness by the end of the 2017-18 school year.

I will post a weekly blog to update students on progress towards the goal. Students may comment with how many acts of kindness they have seen over the previous week, which I will then add to our totals. Another way that students can add to the kindness counts is to fill out and turn in a monthly calendar. January calendars are currently available outside of the office, near the lunch menus. They will be due Wednesday, January 31st.

You may have noticed the post it notes between my office and the library. Those post it notes are for students to take for themselves or to give to others that they feel may be in need of a positive note. I will be working with students to create post its to replenish the wall as students take what they need. If you are interested in helping to create inspirational post its, please see Mrs. Winslow or Mrs. Grim.

Another new opportunity for students is getting together before school on Wednesdays in the library to help plan for kindness week February 12th-16th. If you are interested in helping to make posters and plan for kindness week, come to the library anytime after 7:30. If you are unable to make it here in the morning, please see me to share your ideas and we will try to find another time that would work for you to help out.

Reminder, please comment with acts of kindness you have seen recently or other ideas that you have to encourage kindness in our school community!

  1. We have had several new students start in January and I am impressed by our students willingness to help these students out in finding their way around our building or in familiarizing with combination locks. In addition, students have been welcoming new students to eat with them and introducing them to other students. All of these things go a long ways in making these new students feel welcome at CMS! Keep up the great work!
